After being released from jail, a Minnesota judge is allowing former police officer, Derek Chauvin, to leave the state of Minnesota due to safety concerns.

Chauvin, who was charged with the death of George Floyd after kneeling on his neck for eight minutes, was granted to live in the neighboring states of Iowa or North and South Dakota by Hennepin County District Judge Peter Cahill until his trial begins in March.

Judge Cahill cites enough evidence supporting safety concerns for Chauvin and states that concerns have arisen during the pretrial release. According to the court filing, Chauvin will be monitored by the Minnesota Department of Corrections in whatever state he chooses to live in.

It was originally ruled that Chauvin was not allowed to leave the state of Minnesota while he awaits trial. Chauvin was released from prison after posting bail for $1 million. He spent four months in Oak Park Heights Minnesota Correctional Facility.

Chauvin has been charged with second and third-degree murder and also charged with second-degree manslaughter.
